Mr. Ric Colton, VP & CIO
“The possession of knowledge does not kill the sense of wonder and mystery. There is always more mystery.” - Anais Nin
Figuring out what makes things work has been a life long fascination for Ricardo. As a young man his passion for taking things apart sometimes put him into a bind, thus earning the nickname of “nutty professor,” but this curiosity served to increase his fascination with the process as well as the final product. In his quest for the essential core, Ricardo pursued a B.S. in Electronics Technology from Norfolk State University in Virginia and an M.S. in Information Technology from the University of Maryland with a focus in Emerging Technologies. Ricardo also holds the Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC) certification through the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA).
Ricardo has enjoyed a successful career with a diversified blend of corporate, management, and technical assignments. Prior to joining e-Management, Ricardo worked for Westinghouse Electric Corporation as a quality assurance and software engineer. But it was an assignment with the U.S. Navy which provided a strong foundation in the practical application of communication through analog and digital systems. After working overseas at Field Station Berlin as a senior system engineer, Ricardo returned home to join Fannie Mae as a senior systems programmer.
During his tenure at Fannie Mae, his insight and knowledge of information systems and their potential for integration within the wider business community were valuable aids in a variety of positions. He served as an operations manager, development manager and the data center director where he managed the Mission Critical Facilities and was involved in the set-up of the first “green” information technology data centers nationwide.
Ricardo and his wife now reside in Bowie, Maryland, where he continues to enjoy the exploration of how things work by restoring old cars and buildings. He is also an avid golfer who defines perfection on the golf course in terms that blend harmony with skill. This passion for excellence and enlightenment are hallmarks of his current role as vice president of corporate business services and chief information officer at e-Management. Ricardo’s ongoing exploration of life and technical systems finds expression in this favorite quote:
“It is through science that we prove, but through intuition that we discover.”
- Jules H Poincare
